Orthokeratology is also referred to as “ Eye Braces”, “Ortho- K”, “overnight vision” and “Corneal Refractive Therapy”. With our Ortho-K program, custom made, highly breathable contact lenses gently reshape the cornea during sleep. An Ortho-K lens acts like a retainer for the eyes by helping to reshape the cornea and change how the light is focused at the retina while you sleep, providing you with clearer vision when you wake up. It works by reshaping your cornea (the front part of the eye) in a similar way to laser vision correction. The difference is that Ortho-K is non-surgical and non-invasive. There is no ablating/cutting, no laser, no requirement for medications and it is reversible. In the morning, the lenses are removed and you can enjoy clear vision all day long without glasses or contacts. Retainer lenses (similar to dental braces) are worn nightly to maintain the results. This program is particularly pertinent to high myopes (people with nearsightedness) and to children with progressive myopia and astigmatism

To determine whether or not a patient is a good candidate for Ortho-k lenses, the first step would be to book an eye examination with our doctors to perform an ortho-k consult. This will determine the overall ocular health of the eye and also take a map of your cornea using a diagnostic instrument called a topographer. If you are a good candidate, the measurements and map of your cornea will allow a computer controlled lathe to shape the lens or "eye brace" with specialized curves which helps to reshape the corneal tissue.
