What is Ortho K?

Orthokeratology, commonly known as Ortho K, uses specially designed custom contact lenses worn only while you sleep. Overnight, the lenses gently reshape the front surface of your cornea. When the lenses are removed in the morning, most patients experience clear vision throughout the day without glasses or daytime contact lenses.

Unlike laser vision correction, Ortho K is completely reversible, non surgical, and suitable for both children and adults. It provides freedom from glasses during the day while helping manage progressive myopia in children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ortho K Safe?

Yes. When prescribed by an experienced eye care professional and worn exactly as directed, Ortho K is considered a safe and effective treatment for both vision correction and myopia management.

Like all contact lenses, Ortho K carries a small risk of complications, including eye infections or corneal irritation. However, these risks are low when lenses are properly fitted, good hygiene is maintained, and patients attend their recommended follow up appointments.

At Vue Vision Centre, every Ortho K patient receives comprehensive education on lens handling, cleaning, and care. We also schedule regular follow up visits to monitor your eye health and ensure your treatment remains safe, comfortable, and effective.

For the vast majority of patients who carefully follow their doctor's instructions, Ortho K is a well established treatment with an excellent safety record.

Is Ortho K Permanent?

No. Ortho K is completely reversible. If you stop wearing the lenses, your cornea gradually returns to its original shape and your prescription returns.

Can Adults Wear Ortho K?

Absolutely. Although many children wear Ortho K for myopia management, adults who want freedom from glasses without surgery are also excellent candidates.

How Often Are Follow Up Visits Needed?

Regular follow up appointments allow us to monitor your vision, assess the health of your eyes, confirm your lenses continue to fit properly, and ensure your treatment remains safe and effective.

Why Start Early?

For children with progressive myopia, early treatment provides the greatest opportunity to slow eye growth and reduce the lifetime risk of eye diseases associated with high myopia. Beginning treatment early can have lasting benefits for your child's lifelong vision and eye health.

Ready to Experience Clear Vision Without Glasses?

Whether you're looking to slow your child's myopia progression or enjoy the freedom of clear daytime vision without glasses or contact lenses, our doctors can determine if Ortho K is right for you.
